They also have two dogs, Ralph and Annie. Pastor Charlie earned his Bachelor’s degree in Theology from Queens University in Belfast and his Master’s degree in Mission from the University of Manchester. He is in the final stages of earning his Doctorate from Wesley Theological Seminary. In his spare time, Pastor Charlie loves the sport of rugby, which he played competitively for 25 years, and is passionate about watching English Premier League soccer and likes to play golf and make music.

Pastor Drew Weseman is a native of Gainesville, Florida. Drew did his undergraduate work at Florida Southern College where he majored in Religion with a minor in History. He earned his Masters of Divinity degree from Duke Divinity School in 2014. During seminary Drew studied for a year at the Wesley Study Centre in Durham, UK. Drew and his wife Jessica married in January of 2014 and have one son.  As Associate Pastor Drew works with the Senior Pastor to provide pastoral care and leadership for the whole church.  His particular emphases are congregational care, hospitality and helping to connect Memorial to the community.  "I love being a pastor because it means that I am able to be a part of the whole spectrum of life from baptisms to confirmation, weddings, funerals, and everything in between."

Pastor Carrie Yoder comes to Memorial from Atlanta where she earned a Master of Divinity degree from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University in May 2014.  She is married to Jon Yoder (since 2007) and they have two children, Madilyn (4 years) and Ian (1 year). Carrie is Pastor of Discipleship and Family Ministries at Memorial.   In this role she works to assure that children and families have access to and participate in all parts of the mission and vision of Memorial. "It is important that children learn to worship, study, serve and commune with God." Carrie is also in charge of Christian Education for all ages. She works to ensure that there are many different types of study opportunities available for the people of Memorial. Although she grew up in the Presbyterian Church USA, Carrie has worshiped in the Methodist Church since high school.  Her faith journey continues as she works to be ordained as Deacon and will then be able to serve in Word, Service, Compassion, and Justice:  "I feel called to work to help Christians connect to God through the church."  In the words of her favorite Bible passage (Psalm 139), Carrie wants us all to know that wherever we may go, God "is there," with us, and in us.

  • Dr. Joan Averett, joan@mumconline.com

Director of Music and Worship Arts/Organist

Joan did her undergraduate work at Valdosta State University where she received a Bachelor of Music degree in Organ Performance, and she earned a Master's degree in Organ Performance from Florida State University with a Graduate Certificate in Church Music. Joan worked 25 years for Sandersville (GA.) UMC before coming to MUMC in 2010.

She is married to Tarver Averett and they have two older children, Laura and Ed, and a younger daughter Maelee, who, as Joan says, "keeps us young." Joan sees herself less as a church musician and more as a pastoral worship leader.

Since coming to MUMC, Joan says her faith journey has been transformed: "I have found that the true blessing of God comes to a heart that is open to change and to the surprises that come with living in the grace of Jesus Christ. "

  • Monica Pomeroy, monica@mumconline.com

    Office Manager

Originally from Syracuse, New York where she worked in Human Resources and Office Operations for an insurance company, Monica  "semi-retired" after 25 years to marry the love of her life, Peter. Monica became step-mom to 4 wonderful children who have produced 8 beautiful grand-children.

Monica and Peter found Memorial  by accident when they relocated to Fernandina because of close friends (and to get out of the cold weather in Upstate NY.) She was hired as Office Manager and thinks that joining Memorial was the best decision she ever made. She renewed her commitment to being a Christian and thanks God for bringing her here.  Monica loves walking on the beach and being “Mimi” to her 8 grandchildren.

  • Grace Bowman, grace@mumconline.com

    Staff Administrative Assistant

When asked where Grace is from she likely to say everywhere.  Born in Rhode Island, growing up in multiple locations in Pennsylvania, then spending 10 cold winters in Michigan, she has found the Northern Florida area her favorite.  First road trip brought her right down Centre Street to where she now happily works in the Partin Center.

Grace comes from a family of Methodist Ministers: father, brothers, uncles were all Methodist ministers.  Growing up in the church community gives her insights in serving in this position.  One particular gift that Grace brings us is an understanding of technology and she should be an asset as we move forward with our new ACS software system.

Her latest move is allowing her to reconnect with family as she lives with her sister and brother-in-law.  Grace loves being outdoors: walking on the beach, hiking, biking and just being in nature.

  • Charles Sandusky, mumc.youth@mumconline.com

    Director of Youth Ministries

Charles is a very relational leader who puts a high premium on quality time and discussion with people. He earned a Masters of Divinity from Regent University with one main goal in sight: to continue following the Holy Spirit’s leading in preparing for a life in service of others. He has served as a preaching Associate Pastor and Youth Pastor in an independent church in Georgia two years before arriving at Memorial, in the Fall of 2017.

He teaches and reaffirms the fundamentals of the faith, especially the ‘why?’ behind spiritual disciplines like bible study, worship, and prayer. He believes God wants to use students just as much as adults to shape and influence the current cultural climate according to God’s will and design.

Charles and his wife,  Chelsea, have a rescue dog.

Here’s what Charles believes to be an important grouping of related scriptures:

    Galatians 5:16, Romans 8.14, Ephesians 3.20, Luke 1.37/Matthew 19.26

  • Johnny Armstrong, johnny@mumconline.com

    Facilities Director

Johnny was born and raised in Callahan, Florida, and has been living in Fernandina Beach since 1990. He began working as Facilities Directory at Memorial three years ago, replacing his father, Fred Armstrong, who retired after a long tenure at Memorial.

Johnny and his late wife Barbie lived in Fernandina Beach since 1990. They have two children, Johnny and Caitlin, and one grandchild.

When Johnny is not working, you can often finding doing his favorite thing: fishing for red snapper off the coast of Fernandina! He always has a fish story to tell!

His favorite bible verse is Matthew 6:33 " But, seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."

  • Carrie McCannell-Scruggs, carriemac@mumconline.com

    Communications Coordinator

Carrie (known as "Carrie Mac") has been a member of the Memorial family for over 36 years, beginning her service to the church as an acolyte. She graduated from FBHS and continued on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Public Relations and a Master's of Communication, both from Florida State University.

Carrie gained her professional experience through jobs in print and television media in Tallahassee and non-profit advertising and corporate marketing in Tampa. Her work in Tampa even saw her managing the marketing for the Tampa Bay Lightning, including the season the team won the Stanley Cup! Before she began officially working at Memorial in 2013, Carrie volunteered with many groups within the church and was a member of the team that prepared the current Strategic Plan.

Carrie and her husband, Steve Scruggs, moved back to Fernandina Beach in 2005. Together, they have a son, Mattie, a daughter, Nola, and a rescue dog named Bayou.
