Beloved Friends,
I hope you were able to catch Pastor Charlie’s message this past Sunday as he discussed an audacious hope founded in our faith in Christ. Even as we go through disappointing and heartbreaking experiences where we feel our dreams are dashed, God invites us to lean into a hope that extends far beyond our lifetime through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
You have heard that invitation in one way or another every Sunday when you attend worship or throughout the week as you participate in one of the many ways we share God’s love with others in the community. Now I have a request for you - make this a season of invitation for those around you.
We have a number of events happening here at Memorial in the next few weeks. I encourage you to invite everyone- your family, your friends, your neighbors, even the people you chat up in the grocery store line- to visit our church this season. Provide them with a friendly face to sit next to during the Cantata this Sunday at 8AM or 11AM. Offer them a way to ease back into the church world through the Alternative Christmas Fair on Sunday at 9:30AM.
Bring your people with children to our children’s Christmas nativity at 3:30PM on Christmas Eve (the bonus is you will be out in time for dinner!) or light the candle of someone you know is desperately needing to hear that Christ’s birth breaks into a darkened world to bring hope, peace, joy, and love.
In whatever way you worship with us this season, I hope you will let others know that this is a place where they are welcome and can worship as well. I cannot wait to see everyone who comes through these doors and into our digital spaces in the next few weeks!
With Love and Peace,
Pastor Rachel
