So, Labor Day is behind us, school has started and vacation times are also coming to an end. It’s that time of year we turn our attention to new endeavors. Here at Memorial, it’s a time for thinking about our life in Christ and what those things are that God is calling us to
focus upon. That can also mean coping with changes and turning our attention to the things that help us grow. I’m honored to be co-leading a group with Reverend Gary Hutchinson that is focused on Good Grief. We all experience losses in our lives and some are harder to adjust to than others. If you find yourself in this place, I hope you will consider joining us for our next session on September 19, 2023, at 6:00 pm in Maxwell Hall. You’ll find a safe space and place to share or to listen to learn new ways and means of dealing with loss.
Perhaps God is nudging you to think about your spiritual growth and make a commitment to study. If that’s where you are, visit mumonline.com/study or contact the church office to learn more about what the upcoming Bible studies are and sign up! I’m privileged to be leading one beginning in October that is called “Out From Obscurity” – it’s a 6-7 week study I wrote about twelve women – six from the Old Testament and six from the New Testament and how you can learn from and relate to their relationships with God and with their stories. (Calling all men too to this study!).
Or perhaps God is speaking to you to don your red “Love Shows Up” shirt and engage in our community to let your faith in Christ be your witness through your service. If that’s where you are – there are two upcoming opportunities – our Beach Clean-up Day on Saturday, September 16 and on September 17, you can participate in Undie Sunday (please do wear your undies – “undie” your clothes) and bring some brand-new ones to share that Sunday.
Other disciple deepening opportunities abound – just go to mumconline.com and click on the calendar tab to see times and dates for prayer, for gathering with others for fellowship and service.
Need more info? Gosh do we have wonderful mission opportunities! Contact Justin Rimondi to check those out. Got a heart for kids and youth? Contact Sarah Baldwin and Justin Rimondi to learn more about how you can serve the next generation of disciples!
Just know this – God loves you too much to leave you stagnant. Listen to the Spirit – you are being called in some way to grow, to learn, and to serve.
Blessings!
